A. NECİB OLGUN (1949-)
Due to his father's civil service, he completed his education in various places. He graduated from İstanbul University, Faculty of Literature. He became a philosophy teacher. He served in various places. He returned to Elbistan in 1983. He writes his poems in a lexiphanic way.
 

ABDÜLMUTTALİB DERE (1946-)
He was born in the village of Çiçek in the Elbistan district of Kahramanmaraş. He completed primary school in his village, secondary school and high school in Elbistan. He graduated from Adana Economic and Commercial Sciences Academy. He served in many institutions of the state.


He was fascinated with poetry at a young age. He read the greats of folk poetry. He also wrote himself. He wrote articles. He published them in many places.

He was born in the Emirli village of Afşin district of Kahramanmaraş. After working in various jobs, he started to work in the PTT. He is a good folk poet.

ADEM KONAN (1964-)
He was born in the Afşin district of Kahramanmaraş. He attended primary school in Afşin, secondary school in Elbistan, and Industrial Vocational High School in Kahramanmaraş. He graduated from G.U. Technical Education Faculty Machine Education Department. He started to work as a techer. He published his poems in various magazines. He won degrees in poetry competitions. His works are as follows: Irmağın Yakarışı (1995) and Türk Şiir Güldestesi (with Assoc. Dr. Hüseyin Özbay).
 

ADİL SOYDAN (1918-1965)
He was born in the Zeytun sub-district of Kahramanmaraş. He is originally from the Nakipoğulları family from Elbistan. He completed his primary and secondary education in Elbistan. He died in 1965 while he was working in Elbistan National Real Estate. He has to poetry books: Gönül Sazı (1964) and Yayla
Çiçekleri.
 

ADİLE NECLÂ KANDEĞER (1910-1965)
She was born in Thessaloniki. She attended primary school in İstanbul. She graduated from İzmir Girls Teacher's School. She was first assigned to Maraş. She got married to Bekir Kandeğer in Maraş. She taught in Maraş for 33 years. She retired in Maraş. He became one of the people of Maraş. She died in Maraş in 1965.


Her poems were published in local newspapers and magazines. She is a strong folk poet.

AHMET BERTİZLİOĞLU (1915-1984)
He was born in Kahramanmaraş. He is the child of a very old family of Kahramanmaraş. His father is a mudarris. He is known as Müderris Nuri Efendi. He only attended the primary school. He spent his entire life as a carpenter. He died on December 3, 1984. He is a good folk poet. His poems were lost together with his books where they were given. We have very few of his poems. His master in poetry is Aşık Mıstık.

AHMET CANSIZ GÜLLÜ (1929-1993)
He was born in the Elbistan district of Kahramanmaraş. He is the son of a family that migrated from Erzurum to Elbistan. He started to write poetry at a young age. He only attended secondary school. He wrote poems in both aruz and syllabic meter. He made himself accepted in his environment. He was loved, read. He was self-employed. He worked as officer. He passed away in 1993 in Elbistan. A review was made on him: “Ahmet Cansız Güllü” prepared by Nafiz Yıldırım, Celalettin Kurt (1998). A book of his poems was published by the Ministry of National Education under the name "Şar Dağından Esen Rüzgar".

AHMET ÇITAK (1896-1963)
He is originally from Elbistan. Although he received education in the beginning, he did not have an education life that reached the end. He spent his life in his town. He died in 1963 as a result of a traffic accident. He participated in many call-and-response duets. He is a very strong representative of Turkish folk literature. He has also Divan style poems. He also wrote spontaneous poems. He has no published poetry books. Howevever, there are enough poems in our archive to compose a book.

AHMET EKİCİ (1954-)
He was born in the Yeniyapan village of Göksun district of Kahramanmaraş. He started to write poetry at a young age. He wrote poems about love, affection, homeland, etc. He was among the Anatolian poets who used syllabic meter. He took part in the board of directors of the Anatolian Science and Literature Authors Professional Association (ANASAM). He participated in radio and television programs. His poems were published in newspapers and magazines in various parts of Türkiye. He has two poetry books, Yaprak (1999) and Yorgun Yolcu (1999).

AHMET KARTALKANAT (1932-1997)
He was born in Bozlar town of Çağlayancerit district. He had no education life. At the age of 12, he started playing saz and singing, which was a family tradition. He used the pseudonym Kul Ahmet. He did not stay long in his homeland. He traveled around the country and abroad with wandering minstrels. He hit the road for his imaginary lover. He turned to socialism. It gave him a headache on the way. He passed away in 1997. He has many books. A few of them are as follows: Zâlimin Zulmüne Dayan Hâ Dayan, Gelin Dostlar Bir Olalım, Güzel Anadolum, etc.

AHMET KURNAZ (1959-)
He was born in the Elbistan district of Kahramanmaraş. He attended primary, secondary and high school in Elbistan. He dropped out of Ankara University Faculty of Law. He worked as a civil servant in Elbistan. He collected his poems in the work named “Can Diktim Toprağa”.

AHMET SÜREYYA DURNA (1954-)
He was born in the Nadir village of Afşin district of Kahramanmaraş. He wrote in various newspapers and magazines. He worked in the İskenderun iron and steel factory.

AHMET TEVFİK PAKSU (1926-)
He was born in Kahramanmaraş. He studied at the Higher Economics and Trade School. He was engaged in trade, agriculture and industrialism. He resided in various places. He engaged in politics. He got elected to the parliament. He became Minister of Labour. He fought in every field on the conservative ground. He had trouble. He collected his poems in his book called “Şiirlerim” (1973).

He was born in Beyoğlu town of Türkoğlu district of Kahramanmaraş. He spent his life under difficult conditions.

ALAADDİN KÜÇÜKKÜRTÜL (1927-1990)
He was born in Kahramanmaraş. He spent his life with difficulties. He started poetry because of the pain he suffered. He lived as a recluse. He passed away in 1990.

He was born in Alimpınar Çöte hamlet of Afşin district of Kahramanmaraş. He completed his primary education where he was born in. He got interested in poetry at an early age. He grew up and wrote his own poems.

He was born in the Karagöl village of Pazarcık district of Kahramanmaraş. He is a good poet enough to improvise. He does not play saz.

ALİ GÖZÜKARA (1928-)
He was born in the village of Eldelek in the Elbistan district of Kahramanmaraş. He attended the primary school in Elbistan. He started to write poetry at a young age. He became well-known in folk poetry. Among his works, there are Elbistanlı Âşık Ali Gözükara’nın Seçme Şiirleri (1956), Kalbimin Feryadı (1958), Deriler Konuşuyor (1958), Her Yayladan Bir Çiçek (1959) and Vatan Aşkı.

ALİ İHSAN BAŞPINAR (AŞIK PINARİ) (1955-)
He was born in the Afşin district of Kahramanmaraş.. He started to write poetry at a young age. He writes himself and plays himself. He is a worker.

ALİ İHSAN KUYUMCU (1950-)
He was born in the Elbistan district of Kahramanmaraş. He completed his primary, secondary and high school education in Elbistan. He started his career at the Ministry of Justice. He worked in Prison Directorates. He writes poetry and paints. He publishes his works in local media. He has books. His works are as follows: Yudum Yudum (Poetry, 1970), Bildiğin Gibi (Poetry, 1980), Gurbet Akşamları (Poetry, 1990), Çizemediğim Resim, Elbistan Sokakları (Compilation, 1995) and Yıldıralem (Tale, 1994).

ALİ KARAOSMANOĞLU (1972-)
He was born in the village of Rifatiye in the Andırın district of Kahramanmaraş. He attended primary school in his village and secondary school in Kadirli. He completed his higher education at Selçuk University. He became a literature teacher. He has a poetry book called “Çaykeş”.

ALİ KEMAL GÖZÜKARA (1931-)
He was born in the village of Eldelek in the Elbistan district of Kahramanmaraş. After primary and secondary education, he graduated from Düziçi Village Institute. He used the pseudonym Adsız in his poems. Many of his poems were composed. He wrote in every genre. His works are as follows: Yırtık Papuçlar, İbiliye Mektuplar, 1 Mayıs Türküsü, Paslı Kelepçeler, Masaldaki Masallar and Döneye Mektuplar.

ALİ YALÇIN (1956-)
He was born in the Bakraç village of Afşin district of Kahramanmaraş. He completed his primary school in his village, secondary school in Afşin, and high school in Gaziantep. He worked at the Ülker Biscuit factory. Later, he graduated from Bursa Economic and Commercial Sciences Academy. He started working in Afşin Municipality.

ALİ ZENGİN (1945-)
He was born in Fatmalı village of Kahramanmaraş. He finished primary school in the village where he was born. He graduated from Maraş İmam Hatip High School. He studied at Kayseri High Islamic Institute. He finished his term of service and retired.

AŞIK ALİ ATAŞ (1948-)
He was born in the Çağlayancerit district of Kahramanmaraş. He only attended primary school. The poverty made him leave his homeland. He worked in all kinds of job. He started poetry at a very young age. He put his environment, the events that he lived and encountered in his poetry. He participated in the call-and-response duets. It brought success. He publishes his poems on his own website. The poems he published on his website are around two volumes.

His real name is Kemal Karabulut. He was born in Karaömer village in Göksun.

AŞIK DEVAİ (1957-)
He was born in the village of Sarıçiçek in the Elbistan district of Kahramanmaraş. His real name is Mustafa Çıplak. He completed primary school in his village. In his childhood, he was engaged in playing saz and singing while listening the folk poets. He persevered. He learned how to play, sing, write. He was poor all his life. He left his homeland. He went abroad. He made a program on Libyan television. He won an award at the Kayseri Minstrels' Festival. He participated in many feasts and achieved success. He won medals. He is very powerful in poetry. He has his own place in the history of literature. He has a unique style of playing saz and singing. His poetry book is named Gönül Pencerem (1992).

AŞIK GÜLFANİ (1962-)
He was born in the Ördek village of Afşin district of Kahramanmaraş. He started writing poetry at an early age. He had financial difficulties. He sought sustenance in outside his homeland by playing his saz and singing. He participated in festivals etc.

AŞIK HÜDAİ (1940-2002)
He was born in the Ağoluk village in Göksun. His real name is Sabri Orak. He lost his father at the age of 9. He started to sing poetry from the age of 10. He trained himself alongside master poets. He spent his life in Adana and its environs until the age of 20. After his military service, he settled in Istanbul, which he considered a city of culture. He participated in many competitions in his field. He got degrees. He had first places in these contests. He is a very powerful folk poet. He has his place in the history of literature. He lived single, died single. He saw celibacy as a necessity for poetry. He said it gives freedom. He has three poetry books: Gönül Diyarından Deyişler, Bütün Evren Semah Döner, Yaralar Beni. A review made on him: Zeyneb Başaran, Aşık Hüdai.

AŞIK MAHRUMİ (1932-2006)
He was born in Berçenek, Afşin district of Kahramanmaraş. His real name is Rahmi Kaya. He is the child of a family that came to this region from Dersim. But he studied until third grade in primary school. His parents died early. He became a cattle rancher. The father and grandfather would play saz. He was also willing. Depending on a dream he had, he started to sing as well. He learned how to play the saz. He quit reading other people's poetry. He sang his own poems. He became a master. He was the villager of Aşık Mahzuni Şerif. He was a master in every way. He gave concerts and made programs. He was a socialist poet. His language was sharp. His words hit places where they shouldn't have. He got arrested. He was fired. He had troubles. He barely retired. He passed away in 2006. Although the poet lost most of his poems, some of them survive. Arif Bilgin published a study on Mahrumi, including his poems. “Âşık Mahrûmî”, Arif Bilgin, 2000.

AŞIK MECHULİ (1946-)
He was born in the Kaşanlı village of Afşin district of Kahramanmaraş. His real name is Hasan Öztürk. He has a place in the history of literature.

AŞIK MEHMET ÇOMRUK (1943-)
He was born in the Yeşilyöre town of Kahramanmaraş. He does not play saz. He recites poems by improvising. He hides the poems he writes. He earns his living by working.

ÂŞIK MELÛLİ (1892-1989)
He was a minstrel. He was born in the village of Badre in Afşin district. His real name is Karaca Erbil. He was the son of a wealthy family. He learned to read and write at the age of 7-8. At the age of 10, he was sent to an Armenian who was a family friend in Afşin. He studied at the Armenian school. He took courses in Arabic, Armenian, mathematics and literature.


He was interested in folk literature. He improved himself by reading the poems of many minstrels in his region, as well as those who had passed on to the sources. When he had a disagreement with his father, he left his homeland with his wife. He traveled to various places and met different people. In his poems, he dealt with many subjects from political satires to Sufism as well as human love. He used the pen name Latife as well as the pen name Meluli. His poems were published in various magazines and newspapers, and were composed by many artists. He passed away on November 14, 1989. His life and poems were compiled by his granddaughter Latife Özpolat and Hamdullah Erbil and published in 1992 under the name of "Melûli Divanı ve Aleviliğin, Tasavvufun, Bektaşiliğin Tarihçesi".

ÂŞIK MEŞĞÛLÎ (1948)
He was born in the Höyüklü village of Afşin district of Kahramanmaraş. He attended the primary school in Tanır. He started to write poetry at a young age. He sang and played the saz. He was poor, he worked as a laborer.

ÂŞIK MOLLA HASAN (1870-1930)
He lived in the Musalar nomade group of Orçan Araplar village in Kahramanmaraş. He was known as a poet and hodja. He worked as an imam and merchandiser. He spent his life in poverty. He died in 1930.

ÂŞIK RIZAN CEVİZ (1938-)

He was born in the village of Sevdili in the Elbistan district of Kahramanmaraş. He learned how to play the saz at a young age. He loved someone at the age of 18. He could not get married with her. He has been playing the saz and singing since then.

ÂŞIK YENER (1928-)
He was born in Tanır town of Afşin district. He completed primary school in Tanır. He completed the rest of his education in Adana-Haruniye, Ankara-Hasanoğlan village institutes. He worked as a health officer. He was arrested for political reasons for a while. He was acquited. He returned to his duty. He retired in 1978. He started poetry at a young age. He has continued to write. Many of his poems were composed. He has become famous. He has included topics such as love, separation and loneliness, along with social issues, into his poems. He fought against the distortions that he found contradictory. His works are as follows: Deyişler Demeti (1982), Şiirler Demeti (1992), Yol Ver Dağlar Yol Ver Bana (1998) and Binboğadan Marmaraya (2008).

He was born in Maraş.. His father's name is Mustafa. He started writing poetry after a dream he saw. Keeping his teacher's will, he continued poetry as a way of fight. He dealt with the wrongs he saw in society. He couldn’t get education. He worked in the forest administration and Maraş Municipality. Due to his poetry, he experienced difficulties and retired. He is a very good representative of folk poetry in Maraş. He is a prolific poet. He has so many poems even for a poet. Most of them have been published in local newspapers and his first poetry book was published in 2008. His poems are about wrongs he sees in society, but also about the beauties he sees and attaches to like every folk poet.

FERÂHÎ (1922-1950)
He was born in Elbistan district of Kahramanmaraş. His real name is Mehmet Sağ. He was the son of a gentry family. His father died early. He inherited a fortune from him. He finished his primary school in Elbistan and high school in Antep. He enrolled in Ankara Faculty of Law. But he got sick while he was studying there. On the one hand, he struggled with his illness. On the other hand, he graduated with great difficulty. He did his internship. He became a lawyer. He was engaged. He knew enough Arabic and Persian to speak. He started to write poetry at a young age. He achieved perfection very early on. His poems featured the death, divine love, and the joy of Sufism. He succumbed to his illness. He died in 1950. Before his death, he published his poetic book "Hikâye-i Velâdet-i Rasul" (1949). He expressed his love for the Prophet. HACI HASAN UĞUR (1928-)
He was born in the village of Ambarcık in the Elbistan district of Kahramanmaraş. He attended primary school in Elbistan and secondary school in Malatya. In his youth, he fell in love a beauty in his village. That beauty shaked his heart, depressed and filled him with emotion. He started writing poems. He wrote very excellent poems at a very early age. He couldn’t marry with that beauty. But he continued writing poems. In his poetry, there is God, spirituality and the problems of society. He won the Türkiye first place in a poetry competition he participated in. He farms in his village. He lives in his village. He has three poetry books: Bir Sevda Saçtım Söğütlü’den (1995), Şar Dağından Bad-ı Sabâ (2001) ve Kervanda Zaman (2005).

HACI ÖZER DOĞUÇ (1929-1982)
He was born in the Elbistan district of Kahramanmaraş. He wrote poems in aruz and syllabic meter. He finished primary and secondary school in Elbistan and high school in Ankara. He dropped out of college. He was both a civil servant and a trader. He was a music lover. He had composition. He published 22 songs he wrote with Aruz under the name Hepsi Hayal Hepsi Hakîkat (1961). He died in 1982.

HACI ZÜLKADİROĞLU (1902-1958)
He was born in Kahramanmaraş. He is a good folk poet. His real name is Hacı Mehmet. He was the son of Ali Rıfat Efendi. He passed away in 1958. He published his poems in local newspapers. He has a work called “Maraş Kahramanlığının Târihî Destanı” (1954).

He was born in Kahramanmaraş. He completed his primary and secondary education in his hometown. He graduated from the Faculty of Agriculture. In this capacity, he served in many places. He became an administrator. He retired while serving as provincial director of village services in his hometown. He used the pen pseudonym Dostozan in his poems. He collected his poems in a book titled Maraşca ve Kar.

He was born in the Elbistan district of Kahramanmaraş. He completed his primary and secondary education in Antep. He studied at teachers’ school and then he worked as a teacher and administrator. He published his poems in various newspapers and magazines.

He was born in the village of Hartlap in Kahramanmaraş. He attended primary school. He took religous education from Tuzsuz Hoca. He wrote poems related to national and moral values. He is retired. He resides in his village.

He was brave. He was a bully. Then he was eager to be a hodja. He learned how to read from Hakkı Hoca. He became a hafiz. He learned bookbinding from his hodja. He knew how to read in Arabic. He was a good hodja. He started to work as a hodja. He taught children and practiced art at home. His education system was completely out of the classical. He taught how to write. He taught mathematics. Wrestling was held. The music concerts would be established on Sundays. After a certain time, he got offended by the system. He enclosed himself in his house. He didn't come out until he died. His teaching started during the one-party period. He was opressed a lot. He was insulted. He did not give up teaching and training hafiz. He continued his struggle without hesitation. He was a man full of talent to go down in history. He was convincing. He was foolhardy. He was tremendously strong. There were no art that his mind was not capable of. He ate what he gained. He was a music lover. He was a poet. He did not hold back his word. He always wanted to fight. He is a very good folk poet. He would teach what he would teach by writing poetry. Some of the hymns sung in Maraş are his. Ömer Kaya, one of his descendants, first collected his poems in a book called "Bahçeci Hoca" (1999). Later, it was compiled and corrected by Yaşar Alparslan and Serdar Yakar and published as a book under the name "Muhammet Kamil Ağdaş (Bahçeci Hoca) Hayâtı ve Şiirleri" (2009).
