KAHRAMANMARAŞ GETS THE INTERNATIONAL LITERATURE AND POETRY EVENT

Kahramanmaraş Metropolitan Municipality 1st International Poetry and Literature Days press conference was held. In addition to Metropolitan Mayor Hayrettin Güngör, Governor Ömer Faruk Coşkun, AK Party Deputies Celalettin Güvenç, Ahmet Özdemir and İmran Kılıç, Provincial Police Chief Salim Cebeloğlu, district mayors, district governors, provincial and district directors of national education, poets and writers and members of the press participated in the program held at the 7 Beautiful Men Literature Museum.

Speaking at the program, Metropolitan Mayor Hayrettin Güngör said: “As you know, Kahramanmaraş is a city with a great literary tradition, where the circulation of the word is continuous, and where knowledge and wisdom prevail. We set out for this event with the slogan "Because we have a word". We are striving to make the word of Kahramanmaraş heard not only by Türkiye but also by the whole world.” In his speech, Mayor Güngör also mentioned the efforts of Kahramanmaraş to be included in the "UNESCO Creative Cities Network" in the field of literature. Expressing that the application process has started, Güngör said, “Currently, our friends have accelerated their reporting and lobbying work. We believe that this year will be that year and Kahramanmaraş will have entered a period where it will experience the advantages of being included in the UNESCO network.”

The most striking aspect of the event, which will be held for the first time this year, will be the "Kahramanmaraş Literature Awards", which will be given in 8 different branches. The Evaluation Board, which will consist of Rasim Özdenören, İskender Pala, Fatih Andı, Güray Süngü, Mevlana İdris Zengin, Kemal Sayar and Necip Tosun, will reward the most remarkable books and literary projects of 2020. The awards will be given in best poetry book of the year, best story book of the year, best children's book of the year, best novel of the year, best research book of the year, best digital literature project of the year, best literary magazine of the year, best TV literature program of the year categories.

Within the scope of the event, a painting contest between secondary schools; poetry, story and essay contests between high schools will be organized. In addition, there will be poetry, short story and essay contests for writers of all ages. In addition to all these contests with prize, a “Aşık Mahzuni Şerif Compositions Voice Contest” will be held in memory of the great master Aşık Mahzuni Şerif from Kahramanmaraş.

As part of the International Kahramanmaraş Literature and Poetry Days to be held between 16-20 November 2020, nearly 40 people of literature and culture will be hosted in the city. In addition to the "literary meeting" programs to be held in 30 high schools in Kahramanmaraş and its districts, various "thematic sessions" will be held for the students of Sütçü İmam University every day during the event. The event, which will include a writing workshop that will last for five days, will also host panels, poetry reading events and concerts open to all participants every day. The event will also host an exhibition called “The Faces of Kahramanmaraş”.

As part of the event, two sessions, one in Kahramanmaraş and one in Andırın, will be held on the "İkindi Yazıları" magazine, published in the Andırın district of Kahramanmaraş and shown among the "cult magazines of our literature". On the other hand, the facsimiles of the “İkİndi Yazıları” magazine will be given as a gift to those interested during these events. On the other hand, a documentary about the magazine will be screened during these sessions.
