Living Human Treasures, Minstrels and Bards of Kahramanmaraş

Kahramanmaraş is one of the important centers of cultural diversity and richness, where the cultural memory of Anatolia is kept alive. At the beginning of this richness are the most important representatives of our folk culture, who are the carriers of culture between our past and our future, our Minstrels and Bards, who strive to keep our tradition of Minstrelsy and Bardship alive and to pass it on to future generations.

They have become an indispensable part of Turkish culture with their unique pseudonyms, the instruments and arguments they use, their beautiful call-and-response duets, taşlama (satire), güzelleme (praise) and other elements.

We must support our minstrels and bards working to keep this tradition alive by protecting the values that Kahramanmaraş has cultivated in the field of Minstrelsy and Bardship and its deep-rooted history in city life.

The most important representatives of this tradition, which has a rich culture and a deep-rooted history, gather under the umbrella of Kahramanmaraş Minstrels Culture and Solidarity Association and strive to maintain this tradition.

The continuation of the 1st International Minstrels, Bards and Poets Festival, which was held in 2017 with the cooperation of Kahramanmaraş Metropolitan Municipality and Kahramanmaraş Minstrels Culture and Solidarity Association, is very important in terms of city culture.

Kahramanmaraş is the city with the cultural population most inclined to the Minstrelsy and Bardship tradition of our region. The Minstrel and Bard Coffeehouses, which will be established in the Nation's Gardens, which have become the common meeting and social living spaces of city life in recent years, will be instrumental to fulfill a social and cultural responsibility, which is of great importance in terms of teaching this tradition to young people. It is important for our young people to know themselves and their past so that they can take firm steps towards the future.
