Kahramanmaraş's Sufi Music is Recorded

Volunteer Sufi artists in Kahramanmaraş are working to record the city's Turkish Sufi music works.

A team of volunteer Sufi artists formed under the leadership of Ahmet Uncu, one of the vocal artists of Konya Turkish Sufi Music, in cooperation with the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and Kahramanmaraş Metropolitan Municipality, is working to record the Sufi music of the city. It was stated that a concert will be held at a later date with the notes that emerged as a result of the studies carried out at the Necip Fazıl Kısakürek Cultural Center.

Ahmet Uncu, one of the vocal artists of Konya Turkish Sufi Music from the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, said in a statement that they are working to record the works of Sufi music of Kahramanmaraş, in written and audio form, by eliminating the changes they have been exposed over time. Stating that they started to write and perform the works, Uncu said, "There has never been such a study on behalf of Turkish Sufi music. Perhaps the works of Sufi music belonging to a city were written and notated for the first time and will be performed for the first time." Uncu stated that they are making an effort to leave a lasting work from the past to the future. Drawing attention to the importance of the works as it is the 100th anniversary of Kahramanmaraş's national struggle, Uncu said: "All of our community is composed of our volunteer friends from Kahramanmaraş. They also do their jobs willingly. After we have completed these works, we will perform the concert at Necip Fazıl Kısakürek Cultural Center on Monday, 3 February at 19.00. These works are very beautiful and I hope that such works will increase in all cities before these works are lost."

Ayşe Taşkıran, Head of Health and Social Services Department of Kahramanmaraş Metropolitan Municipality, said that they started this project to record the works from the past to the present. Taşkıran stated that institutions such as Kahramanmaraş Sütçü İmam University, Kahramanmaraş Association for Research and Survival of Hz. Mevlana Culture and Sufi Music Folklore and Kahramanmaraş Music Association support this project and that they will present the works to the public in the form of "CD" upon completion of the project.
