Oğuz Karakoç, the eldest nephew of the poet, told the true story of the poem "Mihriban" written by poet and writer Abdurrahim Karakoç from Kahramanmaraş while he was writing letters to the girl he fell in love with.

The poem "Mihriban", written by Abdurrahim Karakoç, one of the great poets raised by Kahramanmaraş, the city of poets and writers, became a popular folk song after it was composed by Musa Eroğlu. It is known that "Mihriban", which is still among the most listened folk songs today, was written by Abdurrahim Karakoç for his great love in the 1960s. However, there are various rumors about the poem and therefore the story of this love. Abdurrahim Karakoç's eldest nephew denied these rumors and stories and talked about the true state of the story. Oğuz Karakoç said: “The stories on the internet are all wrong. I regret to say that this poem, which tells about Abdurrahim Karakoç's pure and immortal love, is unfortunately interpreted in many different ways for the sake of ratings on the Internet and in TV series. We, as the Karakoç family, feel very sorry about this topic, please do not write scenarios as you like and let this immortal love continue forever.” Karakoç has said that my uncle narrates an event he experienced in his youth in an epic way and added: “Is the person's name really Mihriban? Is her hair really blonde? We don't know about these topics. My uncle loves her so much that he bury his love in his heart and does not tell anyone about it. He never told this to anyone, anywhere, until his death. Despite this, scripts have been written on the Internet with no true foundation. Referring to Mihriban in one of his interviews, my uncle said, “She used to write me a letter and I would send my poem to the newspapers in her region. She used to follow me with my poems” he says, i.e. Mihriban said to my uncle "Is it easy to forget?" And my uncle corresponded with "Do not say is it easy to forget? You shall forget Mihriban" in his poem. But as described on the internet, my uncle's love is not a one-day love. One day love would not be like that. This is evident from his own speech. They wrote letters and poems to each other, but God did not write their end happy, and it ended in this way” he said.

When asked about the true story of "Mihriban", Oğuz Karakoç said: “My uncle did not tell anyone about this, but different scenarios are written on television and on the Internet. If I start to tell something, these will also become scenarios for me. I have to hide what I know, since the addressee has kept it as secret in this love. But I can say that this love is not a love for a day or two. There is mutual love. They met at a tourism event in the Southern Anatolia Region, attended by my uncle and the person he fell in love with. There was a one-month acquaintance process in an environment where both were present. When we follow the poems, it is seen that the conversation continues later on. I am not the one who is telling this, if you follow my uncle's poems, the truth will come out."
