Minstrels to Discover Young Talents in the City of Poets

In Kahramanmaraş, the city of poets, which has raised many poets and writers, from the great masters of folk poetry to the important representatives of modern poetry, a voice contest is organized by minstrels to maintain this title and to discover young talents.

Applications for the voice contest "The Voice Afşin", organized by the Afşin Minstrels Association with the support of Afşin District Governorate and Afşin Municipality, have started.

The contest, which will be held until the end of the month when applications will end, aims to introduce unheard voices to the public and to continue the minstrel culture.

Association President Ahmet Karakaya said in a statement to the AA correspondent that they wanted to bring to light the undiscovered talents with a beautiful voice in the district.

Emphasizing that they want to convey the culture of minstrelsy and poetry to future generations in a healthy way, Karakaya stated that they want to bring young talents to the public. "We organized 'The Voice Afşin' contest in our district to identify new voices that will continue the culture of minstrelsy and poetry and deliver the flag" he said.

Expressing that Afşin is a district famous for its minstrels and poets, Karakaya said:

"Many famous bards, minstrels and poets have grown up in our district. We have values that have made their name known to the country, such as Aşık Mahzuni Şerif, Hayati Vasfi Taşyürek and Aşık Yener. As an association, we will organize a voice contest called 'The Voice Afşin' in order to bring out the beautiful sounds that won't get forgotten. In this contest, we will have awards for the winning voices and we will shoot a clip with the song the winner wants to sing. We want to introduce unheard voices to the public and make the culture continue."

Karakaya stated that citizens can come to the association building until Friday, September 30 to apply for the voice contest, and thanked Afşin District Governor Ali Edip Budan and Afşin Mayor Mehmet Fatih Güven for their contributions to the contest.
